Curiosity is more than asking questions. It’s an attitude, a way of moving through life with wonder. And it just might be the key to experiencing more of life.

Why Curiosity Matters?

Curiosity opens up a whole new world of possibilities for how we learn about and engage with life.

It challenges assumptions

It softens judgment

Curiosity creates choice

It fosters dialogue- with self and others

When we are curious, we become more open to experiences and perspectives we may have otherwise dismissed. We ask quetions, challenge old stories.

Curiosity doesn’t require certainty.

Curiosity asks:

What if?

Why?

I wonder?

How come? How can I make this happen?

What is possible?

Certainty limits curiosity.

On being a Sagittarius and Innately Curious.

I am a natural explorer- of places, people, ideas and the “what’s” of life. Curiosity is my compass and influences my choices for how to move through life. I am as a previous mentor once said to me, ” A lifelong learner”. If I’m not learning, I am not experiencing the breadth of what life offers. It is, however, a blessing and a curse. Where I am drawn to engaged conversations and experiences that make me think and wonder, not everyone is. Curious minds can be perceived as annoying and challenging to those who are comfortable with the status quo.

Is Curiosity a Lost Art?

We were all born with the innate capacity to be curious. As littles, it’s how we learned about and moved through the world. And somewhere along the way, we may have been made to believe asking questions was wrong. “Stop asking so many questions”, or “Because I said so, or “That’s just the way we do things around here”. And so we stopped asking.

Curiosity became as vintage a concept as having live conversations with people.

Rediscovering Curiosity.

It’s only a lost art if you stop wondering, imagining and asking questions. Consider, for a moment, what you are curious about. Can be anything, and let your mind go. Curiosity is not dependent on the answers; it is merely the foundation required to experience life.

A Practice:

Have you ever sat outside and looked at clouds, only to see images within them? It need not matter what others don’t see what you do; it is your experience. Make it yours. Go outside and consider the following when you see clouds.

What do you see?
What else do you see?

Do you have a bucket list experience that you’ve dreamed about only to tell yourself, “I can’t afford it“, or “it’s too much money“? Challenge it, I say, and just let your mind wander. Curiosity says: How can I afford it? What are my options? How can I make this happen“?

As you move through your day, notice what catches your attention and when you form assumptions or judgments. Practice the art of asking questions. No pressure to have the answers. Let curiosity be your invitation to see life through a wider lens.
